We both took a Physics class notorious for being super easy and, kid you not, meeting your future spouse. The first day the professor even arranged the seating chart so that it went boy, girl, boy, girl all the way through, just to help the process out. JT recalls seeing a cute girl near the front get in trouble nearly every day for talking to the boys on either side of her. Fast forward toward the end of the semester and he meets that cute girl one Friday afternoon in the cafeteria. I even invited him to a small group at our church, the same one which one of his friends had invited him to, but JT had yet to take him up on it. Needless to say, JT called his friend and soon started coming to my small group. We started hanging out and went on our first date to On the Border (still a fav) and watched Spider Man. Our date was days before summer break when I was heading to a job in San Diego and he was heading to a job in Fort Worth. Before said job started he took a massive road trip with friends through CA and stayed with my family for a day. Here is one of the pictures from their trip and surprisingly, not the most awkward looking one, haha! (I got it from my scrapbook, hence the big red thing over Jacob's head)
So, end of the summer, I'm heading back to Baylor thinking this is it, we're going to start dating and it's going to be great because I really like this guy. JT, on the other hand, was not so certain. I started doing what any self-respecting girl would do, stalk him. We were both business majors, so already we were taking several of the same courses. I would just help out the process by asking him which professors he had heard were the best, so that we ended up in the same class. I also didn't have a parking sticker to park on campus and on several days would have him drop me off at my apartment. Seems reasonable, right? Except that my apartment was NEXT TO the parking garage. Yes, we would walk up two flights of stairs, get in his little pick up, and drive 100 meters or so to my apartment. I know, I know, pretty pitiful. I was pretty smitten and two years later he finally came around.
This was taken just before we started going out.
At this point we were spending A LOT of time together, often just the two of us and it was killing me.
On a side note, pop culture tries to tell us that boys and girls can be best friends, but it doesn't work. Someone always likes the other one. Anyway, that someone was me and I finally decided it was too hard and I needed to break up with my best friend. The same evening I was about to give him the we can't be friends anymore talk, he beat me to it and asked me out. Ummm, didn't see that one coming, but sweet!
Hard to see, but JT had a shaved head for most of the time we were dating. I didn't like it very much :-)
Seven months later he asked me to be his wife, and after falling for him almost three years earlier, I said yes . . . and I still live in Texas because of it. :-) Some days I still miss the beach, but would not want to miss the adventure I've had with my best friend for the last six years for the world. Here is one picture from the night we got engaged. I'll share a couple from our wedding and engagement in another post.
Oh, and if you think we look young in each of these pictures, you are right. :-)
